Border patrol agents are law enforcers employed by a state government, usually the department responsible for border protection, customs and/or national security. In addition to securing a nation or state's border, agents may carry out surveillance operations to prevent the smuggling of narcotics, counterfeit goods, illegal weapons, and hazardous substances.
