Sommelier

About

Originating from the French word for for a court official who with transported supplies, today's sommeliers are wine professionals.

Sommeliers usually work in fine dining restaurants, but can also be found working in vineyards, or on a freelance basis for private clients.

A large part of their work is in collaborating with a culinary team to pair and suggest wines that best complement each food menu item. They design wine lists, provide advice and guidance to customers, and may also provide expertise in other drinks such as beers, cocktails, and spirits.

Other specialized types of sommeliers are now becoming more popular - from sake and beer, to tea and coffee.
