Missing persons investigators search for and locate people who have disappeared. They may work on a wide variety of cases, including victims of kidnapping or human trafficking, runaway children, and people with mental health issues who have become lost.
Investigators tend to be licensed private investigators or law enforcement officers, and use various techniques and methods in surveillance, psychology, data analysis and interpersonal communication to successfully close a case.
